Oral Pain Should Prompt You to Take Action

Oral Pain Should Prompt You to Take Action
April 13, 2021

Going to routine dental appointments is something everyone should do twice per year. No one is immune to oral issues which means that everyone needs routine dental care. It can be a little more difficult to determine when you need to call your dentist and get help in between those routine appointments. The easiest way to determine if you need to take action and get help for your teeth is based on pain. Any time you experience serious oral pain it should prompt you to take action. Oral pain typically happens because there is some type of problem. Your body is letting you know that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Oral pain can point to gum disease

Gum disease is a common issue. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can lead to symptoms such as pain, inflamed gums, and bleeding gums. Gingivitis itself is not considered an emergency but if you do not address it early on it can progress into periodontitis. Periodontitis is more serious and can lead to more severe pain, receding gums, and tooth loss. Your dentist can look at your gums and tell you if you have signs of gum disease. If it is gingivitis, a few changes in your oral care routine can reverse it. Periodontitis usually requires some type of intervention from the dentist. Take any pain you experience in your gums as a sign that you need to take action.

Oral pain can point to decay

Many people immediately think of decay when they start to experience oral pain. Decay can lead to serious pain and damage to your teeth. The nature of decay is progressive which means that it will not stop on its own. If the pain you feel is caused because of decay, you will continue to have issues until you see the dentist and have it treated. Pain from decay is not always an emergency but it can turn into one. Let the pain prompt you to take action and call your dentist for an appointment.

Your dentist has solutions for oral pain

Another reason you should let oral pain prompt you to take action is the fact that there is help available. Your dentist has solutions for oral pain whether it is being caused by gum disease, decay, or injury. There is no reason for you to continue suffering from oral pain! Give your dentist a chance to look at your teeth and gums in order to determine what type of treatment is right for you.

If you are unsure about calling your dentist to schedule an appointment between routine visits, let pain be your guide. The pain should be a prompt for you to take action. Dentists leave space in their schedule to treat established patients who experience problems. If you are already established as a patient with Dr. Singh at Dental Remedies, do not hesitate to call if you are experiencing oral pain.
