What are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?
June 26, 2023

A beautiful smile is one of the best first impressions when you meet someone new. If you lack confidence in your smile, however, it can be difficult to feel comfortable to display your best self. An experienced dentist can provide you with a simple solution to minor cosmetic issues

What are veneers?

Porcelain veneers provide an easy solution to fix cosmetic issues with your teeth. A dentist places a shell on the front a tooth to correct discolorations, chips or gaps in the teeth. The dentist will remove a small bit of enamel from the front of the tooth and make a model or impression of the tooth. This will be sent to a facility to make the veneer. Once the dentist receives the veneer back, usually within a few weeks, the dentist can place the veneer on the teeth. At this time, the dentist will bond the veneer to your tooth using a cementing process. With proper oral hygiene, veneers will likely last 10 to 20 years.

Benefits of Veneers

Veneers are widely used across dental offices because of their many benefits. With decades of proven results, you can feel confident that a qualified dentist can provide you with beautiful results.

Dental veneers are simple and non-invasive to fix chipped or discolored teeth.  They also can close up small gaps in teeth to make a cohesive smile.

More affordable than replacing the tooth with an implant, veneers can provide a fresh look to a tooth without the higher price tag and invasive surgery of an implant.

Porcelain veneers provide a natural look and feel like your real teeth. They function the same as your normal teeth, so don’t take as much of an adjustment period as other solutions.

If you are looking for a solution that will last a long time, porcelain veneers may be the right choice. They are fairly permanent lasting 10 to 20 years, only needing to be replaced after years of use

Porcelain veneers are easy to care for with normal oral hygiene and regular visits to your dentist.

What to Expect

If you and your dentist decide that you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, the dentist will begin the treatment process. The first step is for the dentist to conduct a tooth trimming to remove any decay and a small layer of enamel to prepare the tooth for the veneer. This can often be performed without a sedative. The dentist will then create an impression of the tooth to send to the lab so the veneer can be custom-made. A temporary veneer may be placed, although this may be unnecessary since the veneer can typically be placed within a couple of weeks. Once the dentist receives the veneer back, they will check the fit to ensure the tooth feels good in your mouth. Once any adjustments have been made to make it perfect, the dentist will bond the veneer to the tooth with a bonding agent. At this point, you will have your permanent veneer and can care for it with regular oral hygiene.
